Local Parliamentary Candidate Chris White has welcomed Conservative proposals to raise the threshold above which Stamp Duty is charged on house purchases to £250,000. Under George Osborne’s proposals to reform capital taxes, the Inheritance Tax threshold will be raised to £1 million and Stamp Duty will effectively be abolished for 9 out of 10 first-time buyers, making it easier for younger people to get on the housing ladder.
Chris said: “I am pleased that David Cameron and George Osborne have outlined the Conservative Party’s plans to help first-time buyers when we are in government. Making housing more affordable is one of the most complex challenges we face, and is something that I hear about from young people around Warwick and Leamington all the time. The Conservative Party today is doing what people have been asking the government to do for years – making it easier for people and families who aspire to buy their own homes. This reform is an essential component of our plans to make housing more affordable and I know that people in Warwick and Leamington will welcome the removal of this barrier to home ownership.”
