After the House of Lords voted, against the Government, to support Conservative proposals for a “lifeboat fund” for people whose pension schemes have collapsed, Chris White, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Warwick and Leamington said:
“Our local MP is a minister in the Department for Work and Pensions. He has the power to do something to help the 125,000 people who have lost their savings because their pension scheme went bust. But instead, he puts politics before pensioners and follows Gordon Brown’s orders.
“Last week, a coalition of Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and crossbench peers supported our proposals for a ‘lifeboat’ fund which would give quicker, fairer and more generous compensation to people who really need it.
“These people have saved for their retirement and lost their pensions through no fault of their own. We are on their side – why aren’t Gordon Brown, James Plaskitt and the Labour Party?”
