Chris White, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Warwick and Leamington, has today spoken out against the Labour Party's attempts to play party politics with our local services. Writing to the Courier, Chris said:
"I was yet again disappointed by James Plaskitt’s political game-playing in your report about the future of our local fire station. As the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Warwick and Leamington, I can categorically say that I will campaign to keep our local fire station local – just the same as I have campaigned to keep our NHS services local.
"Mr Plaskitt blamed the local county council for putting the fire station’s future at risk. But he knows that the blame lies with central (Labour) government, because their funding settlement for Warwickshire was a real terms cut. Meanwhile, burdens imposed on local councils by central government have increased costs.
"It’s deeply irresponsible for James Plaskitt to play politics with this sensitive issue, because as he says, it would run grave risks with the safety of Warwick residents. But sadly, this issue yet again proves that we can’t trust our local MP. The people of Warwick and Leamington deserve an MP they can trust."
